A Day of Soccer and Rain

This time of year, it is rainy season in Mogotes.

Every afternoon around 3pm after a bright and sunny morning, the clouds roll in from behind the mountains. Thunder rumbles. Lightning crashes. At any moment, a downpour will begin.

When the rain comes, it is heavy, powerful, soaking. It floods the fields and runs into the drains like rivers. Everyone runs for cover. All electronics are unplugged.

On Sunday, the rains came just before Wilfredo’s soccer game was about to begin. Everyone ran for cover. Nevertheless, both teams arrived and when the rain slowed, the ran onto the field, splashing through the puddles. The played, soaking wet, the ball stopping in mini-lakes around the field. Wilfredo scored the first goal. Here are some photos from the game:

A few Spanish words:
Goal: gol
It is raining: Está lloviendo
Clouds: nubes
Soccer: fútbol
To play: Jugar
