I’ve been in touch with the international education advisor, Mary Sasso, from my university and I wanted to share part of her response to one of my emails. I think it really just speaks for itself:
It’s very insightful that you mention how unlike the portrayed Colombia is from the real Colombia. This is why traveling is imperative to the development of educated minds of all our nations peoples. So often opinions are formed based on TV shows, or snippets of news, or the politics of the day. Experience has taught me that once people meet – all those preconcieved ideas give way to the reality that we’re all pretty much the same. We work, we play, we eat, we sleep. It is what we do for a living, how we play, and what we eat that make for lively conversation and further our understanding of the importance of culture and social values on daily life activities.
